The goal of this assessment is to generate recommendations, in the form of a proposal for process improvement and organizational fitness. Make your recommendations for the organization you selected in Assessment 4 for the balanced scorecard presentation. Apply the concepts of balanced scorecards to create your recommendations.
In your proposal, use specific language and include evidence-based concepts from peer-reviewed literature, including a minimum of four outside peer-reviewed sources. Communicate information and ideas clearly, accurately, and concisely, including reference citations and using correct grammar. Include the following in your proposal:
- Describe the selected organization, including its vision and mission.
- Analyze the company using any adaptation of the Kaplan and Norton balanced scorecard framework that fits your selected organization. Refer to the materials in the Resources.
- Communicate vision, strategy, objectives, measures, targets, and initiatives for each of the following four elements through a macro-level discussion:
- Financial performance measures.
- Internal business processes.
- Learning and growth.
- Customer satisfaction.
- Convey the organization’s values through an ethical, organizational, and directional strategy.
- Recommend evidence-based and best practices for monitoring and improving discussions.
- Generate one recommendation for each of the following:
- Process improvements.
- Quality improvements.
- Organizational efficiency.
- Learning implementation.
- Implementation and evaluation.

The mission of the hospital system is to promote health, improve quality of life and deliver exceptional care. In order to achieve this mission and vision, there are several recommendations for process improvement and organizational fitness that can be implemented.
Firstly, in order to establish a culture of patient safety, it is important for healthcare leaders to lead by example and prioritize the importance of patient safety through open communication and transparency. Healthcare leaders must ensure that the hospital system has clear policies and procedures in place for risk management and regularly assess and evaluate these policies. This can be done through regular training and education for staff, encouraging reporting of incidents, and implementing a system for continuous quality improvement.
Secondly, risks to patient safety should be assessed and managed through a systematic approach that identifies potential hazards and takes steps to eliminate or reduce them. This can be achieved through conducting regular risk assessments, root cause analysis, and creating action plans that address identified risks. Other types of risks that may be assessed and managed include financial risks, reputational risks, and operational risks.
Thirdly, important factors that need to be monitored in the selected work setting include patient satisfaction, quality of care, and staff engagement. These can be monitored through surveys, feedback from patients and staff, and through regular audits and benchmarking.
As a medical professor, I can contribute to risk management and patient safety within my job by educating and training college students on the importance of patient safety and providing them with the tools and knowledge to identify and manage risks. By doing so, I can help to promote a culture of patient safety in healthcare organizations and contribute to the quality of care provided to patients.
Tools to Put to Work as the New CEO:
As the new CEO of the hospital system, there are several tools that I would put to work in my new position. One tool that would be useful is the balanced scorecard, which is a performance management framework that is used to align business activities with the strategic goals of an organization. The balanced scorecard can be used to create a macro-level discussion around financial performance measures, internal business processes, learning and growth, and customer satisfaction. By doing so, it can help to align the hospital system’s goals with its day-to-day operations and ensure that it is meeting the needs of its patients and stakeholders.
In order to create an efficient, high-performing accountable care organization, I would need a strong executive leadership team. The individuals needed for my leadership team may include a Chief Medical Officer, a Chief Financial Officer, a Chief Nursing Officer, and a Chief Quality Officer. These team members would need to have strong leadership skills, be able to work collaboratively, and have a deep understanding of the healthcare industry.
Important competencies for team members may include strategic planning, project management, financial management, communication skills, and change management.
Processes, structural models, or frameworks from this course that may help me as a transformational leader include the balanced scorecard, performance improvement models such as PDCA and DMAIC, and quality improvement models such as Lean and Six Sigma. By using these frameworks and models, I can ensure that the hospital system is meeting its strategic goals, improving its processes, and providing high-quality care to its patients.
